The Woolhope Bell Ringers arranged a quarter peal for Choral Evensong on Friday 2nd February. Congratulations to everyone in the band for successfully completing 1260 changes of Grandsire Doubles in 42 minutes.

The Candlemas service was in association with The Prayer Book Society and Hereford Church Singers, led by John Eden.

1260 Grandsire Doubles
Grandsire is the name of the method (or pattern) followed in this quarter peal. Doubles means that bells 1 through 5 ring the changes, while the tenor (the 6th and largest bell) always sounds in 6th place. A peal is usually 5040 changes rung consecutively (taking around 3 hours to complete with church bells), hence, a quarter peal is 1260 changes.
