We are pleased to announce that, following the incident last month, the clapper has been repaired so Woolhope’s tenor is back in full working order! Here is a link to last months’s post (news article) where we explain what happened: Read post

Nicholson Engineering, who carried out the rehanging in 2015, have been extremely helpful and agreed to conduct the necessary repairs free of charge. Last week, Pat and Barbara took the complete clapper assembly all the way down to Bridport in Dorset where Nicholson’s carried out the remedial work while they waited.

The clapper was then reinstalled in the bell last week, but unfortunately our spare wooden slider (part of the mechanism enabling the bell to be set or stood) was the wrong size. Until a new slider can be acquired, the damaged one has been reinforced so we can safely ring the tenor in the meanwhile.

Here is a picture of Steve, one of our regular ringers, who kindly helped to reinstall the clapper in the tenor.

We are ringing before the church service this Sunday (19th November) so hope Woolhope residents enjoy hearing our biggest and lowest sounding bell ring out once again.
