A quarter peal of Grandsire Doubles was recently rung prior to the Mothering Sunday Service on Sunday 19th March. Congratulations to everyone in the band for ringing superbly and in the record time of 41 minutes.
1260 Grandsire Doubles
Grandsire is the change ringing method or pattern being followed. Doubles tells us that two pairs of bells swap and one stays in the same place every change, in other words, five bells ring the changes. The tenor bell (the largest and deepest note) always sounds last (in sixth place) which is referred to as covering or tenor behind. A peal is traditionally 5040 changes, so a quarter peal is usually 1260 or more changes rung consecutively.
